A New Version

A New Vision

Greetings everyone. As this is our first newsletter of the year 2000, I wanted to take a moment and share with you some of the changes going on within Trivision.

Last year you likely remember us doing a customer survey. The feedback we received from the survey gave us some excellent ideas for where we need to position ourselves to serve you better.

For starters, we are focussed on making the software more user-friendly. This is something you will notice as soon as you fire up Version 3.2 for the first time. Our goal is to make each version more powerful and easier to use than the last in an effort to make your job easier.

Next, we have been controlling the prices of the software to keep it the best feature-for-feature value on the market. As well, you will notice a 50% cut in support charges for the majority of the support issues we come across.

This is our philosophy and it is based on the needs you have expressed to us. In June we will be sending out another survey to get your feedback on the new version and the company as a whole.

Please take a moment to share with us your feelings so that we can continue to work toward meeting more of your needs more often.

In closing, Version 3.2 will be available for upgrade starting April 3rd and we encourage you to put it through its paces and let us know what you think. We are confident that it is the best software we have ever put out and hope that you will feel the same.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

R.W. Sephton

R.W. (Bob) Sephton P.Geol.

RIGHT-CLICK DATA IMPORTS

Importing data is now as simple as right-clicking on a curve and importing the data directly into that curve from either an ASCII or LAS file.

We have also added new windows to the import module to remind you if the UWI in your import file does not match the one in your active well and if your imported curve is not associated with a layer on your log.

NEW REPORT FORMATS

We have added several new report formats. There are new Morning Report formats that include formation summary, lithology summary and gas value summary, either total gas or chromatography format.

Our new Well Summary report includes core summary, casing summary and wire line logging summary. We have also added a new Sample Description report that includes formation tops.

PERCENTAGE LITHOLOGY LAYER

We have added another Layer / Track to the System Logs to accommodate the % Lithology entered into the Sample Description report window. This layer can also be activated by itself and can be edited on the striplog. The changes made on the layer will be reflected in the Sample Description report as well.

You will also notice the Percent (%) Lithology Sort order field. This window allows the user to edit the way the % Lithology Layer will display the rock types that have been entered into the Sample Description window or the Builder for the Layer.

We have added fields to these windows to capture the rock type that will be displayed on the Percentage (%) Lithology Layer.

OTHER NEW FEATURES IN 3.2

Other improvements in Version 3.2 include the following:

  • Show scale changes even on non-active layers
  • Set position of various windows to open in the same position each time during a session.
  • New hotkeys for starting and saving new records
  • A well status field that allows you to record the completion status of a well and record it in the Well Summary report.

To see these and other new features, call or visit our office.

THE MANY FEATURES OF VERSIONS 3.2

You now have the ability to import directional surveys directly from data files to the program. If the service company can export the surveys to a file, you will be able to import them into your log. We have also added a field to indicate any survey misruns and given you more flexibility to show direction in either azimuth or quadrant on the log.

MINIMUM CURVATURE CALCULATION

You can also do minimum curvature calculations on the directional surveys. The only data required to calculate the minimum curvature are the measured depth, inclination and azimuth.

From these values, your east meters, north meters, vertical section meters and dogleg severity can be determined. Indirectly this gives you the ability to extrapolate your (TVD) at the drill bit and interpolate for any tops encountered.

DRIFT ANGLE CALCULATION

We have provided an alternate method of obtaining TVD values, calculating using only the inclination values. This method will not calculate your vertical displacement, but will provide an accurate TVD to correspond to your measured depth (MD).

If you can provide the program with a MD, and a drift angle degree for that depth, a TVD can be calculated.

WELL PATH CALCULATION

We have added the ability to draw a horizontal well path with a click of a button. If your directional surveys have been filled in, the program provides a method for drawing your well path using the MD and TVD values from the directional surveys.

This well path is updated every time the directional surveys are recalculated, and prompts you for a start depth for the well path.

MAKING SUPPORT MORE AFFORDABLE

In an effort to make support more affordable to all our users, we have changed the way support will be both offered and priced from now on.

All calls that resolve a problem within fifteen minutes, will be $20, a 50% cut from the current price of $40. However, any calls that go over 15 minutes will be billed at a flat rate of $40.

As well, our website and new program help file will contain the answers to the most commonly asked questions so that you will have 24 hour/day access to the help you need, whenever you need it.

We feel this offers you an improved value and level of support to help you when you need it.

GEOCANADA 2000 SHOW

This year’s GeoCanada 2000 industry trade show is being held May 29-June 2 at the University of Calgary. We will be there in Booth #XXX and we hope you will drop by and see us.

LAS IMPORT MODULE SPECIAL

Since the LAS import module has been substantially improved with the advent of the right-click import and ability to import directional surveys, etc., the price for the new module will be changing from $399 to $599. For all our current users who do not have this module, we would like to offer it to you at $399 if you purchase it before June 1st. If you have been wanting this module, this is your last chance to get it at this low price! Call our office today!

REFERRAL PROGRAM

Do you know someone who could use our software? If you do, it could be worth a referral fee if they mention you as the person who referred them to us. It’s that simple. You can also just phone, fax or email the name of anyone you think we should contact and we’ll get in touch with them. If they purchase, you get the same referral fee just for giving us their name.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Well that wraps it up for this issue. We hope everyone is as excited about the new Version 3.2 as we are. We look forward to seeing everyone in the next few months as they come in to get upgraded and try out our newest and best version yet. As well, we are interested in your feedback on the new course we are charting for both the software and the company as a whole in our efforts to serve you better.
