With all the questions about security when sending log and report data over the Internet, our users have expressed a great deal of interest in what they can do to ensure maximum security for their data.  Now if you are sending an exported file from Power*Log or Power*Curve, you need not worry as it is already encrypted and secured with a password that only you and the person you send the data to need to know.

But what happens if you are sending a log and/or report in Adobe PDF format?  This is where WinZip comes in handy.   Download the free trial and you can zip your PDF files into a slightly more compressed format and add password protection to ensure that only those entitled to see your information actually see it.

Their process is quite easy.  Once you download the WinZip program, install it using the wizard installation by answering the prompts that come up.  Once installed, select your PDF file and right click on your mouse.  This will bring up a selection box and you will need to choose "add to zip" to create your new file.   In the "Add" box that will appear, you will select the name of your new file.  At the bottom right hand side of the box, click "Password" and enter the password of your choice and click the "Add" button to complete the file.

You can now put this file on diskette or email it to the person who needs to see your information and simply by supplying them with the password, they can access the data.
